Trans, Non-Binary and Queer Health Care
LGBT2SQ people are welcomed in the practices of Victoria’s Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Our department is actively involved in providing gender-confirming (transition-related) surgery and care unique to non-binary and trans people assigned female at birth. This care includes:
Minimally invasive hysterectomy (removal of uterus and cervix)
Minimally invasive bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of Fallopian tubes and ovaries)
Work-up and management of abnormal bleeding on testosterone therapy
Menstrual suppression
Obstetrical care of Trans men in pregnancy
We also provide care for trans-women, who have undergone surgery to create a neovagina.
We generally receive referrals for gender-confirming surgery from Trans Care assessors in accordance with WPATH guidelines. The gynaecologists in our department act in a surgical capacity, and are not registered as assessors.
Transition-related surgeries are covered by MSP.
